Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!
Tonight we played Stanley Parable, Sentris, and the Unfinished Swan.
Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable is a Steam game, originally a Source mod. What makes this game unique is that it presents the illusion of free choice within the confines of a presented narrative. It creates a commentary on work and AAA games.
One of the strong points of the game is the conflict that exists between the narrator and Stanley. The game features around 15 possible endings, including two non-endings. In the meeting today we discovered and played only two.
Sentris
Tim brought in this game today. It is currently in Kickstarter, and if you get in on the Kickstarter you’ll be able to play the version we played in the meeting today. Sentris is an abstract, music creation game that features multiple “levels” and procedurally generated music using a unique circular interface and new music every time you play.
the Unfinished Swan
The Unfinished Swan is an innovative PS3 game by Giant Sparrow that features a mechanic involving throwing globs of paint at a blank canvas backdrop that slowly evolves as you add more and more paint. The game also features a vine growing mechanic as you, a small child named Monroe travel through this world after your swan disappears from his painting.
