Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!
This week, we looked at Swift*Stitch.
Details after the jump.
1p, one-button puzzle racer, win/mac/linux/ios/web (unity), free
Swift*Stitch is an action puzzle racing game that plays a little like an endless runner. You start off moving in one direction, and holding the button turns you 90 degrees. When you pass through colored energy fields, the button’s behavior changes. You might turn a different way or carve an arc in a different direction. A slow-motion mode lets you pick more precise paths to pick up shinies that are distributed across each level.
Three gameplay modes (Normal, Survival, and Endurance) vary your objectives. Normal is the basic action puzzle mode. Survival combines the puzzle levels with a limited number of lives, depleted through crashes and slow-motion and recovered by picking up shinies and grazing corners. Endurance has you warping through a set of smaller levels as your speed increases uncontrollably.
The visuals are done arcade-vector-style, free of clutter and distraction. Synthesized sound effects reinforce the arcade feel. There are also a good number of achievements for tricky moves and general progression through the game.
Discussion notes: I’m afraid I didn’t take notes this time. =(
See you next time, jumpers.
