Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!

This week we played Kingdom, Galatea, and Salvation Prophecy.

Kingdom

Kingdom is a minimal strategy game about building a kingdom. It is a beautiful game. You spend money to buy the loyalty of your citizens, to have farmers farm, archers shoot and structures be built.

By day you spend your money, and by night you defend your kingdom from the green zombie-like invaders. The stated goal of the game is to last ten nights alive, but there is a great deal of strategy that goes into play inside such a simple game. The minimal UI allows for a greater level of attention to be paid to the graphics, sound and strategy.

The game is browser based and can be played here.

Galatea

Emily Short is often considered a master of the form, one of the best known writers of interactive fiction in the modern time.  Galatea might be considered one of the less traditionally “game like” of her works.

In Galatea, you play as a man talking to an “animate,” specifically a female statue. The game has definite replay factor in that your actions can create several different situations.

The game can be found at the author’s website and can be played online.

Salvation Prophecy

Salvation Prophecy is a space shooter RPG with military space epic with several different races and factions. The game features elements of humor and an interesting story line.

It features big space battles akin to games like Freelancer, but with on the ground capabilities and upgradeable ships. It is open-ended, and developed by a relatively small team. It is available now on Steam.
