Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!

This week we played Stories at the dawn, Assault Android Cactus and Her Story

Stories at the dawn

A limited environment fantasy game console, Pico-8 is in development and early alpha. Stories at the Dawn is a game specifically designed for that platformer. The game was made over the weekend that tells a variety of stories through platforming.

The platformer is incredibly competent and the platforming feels pretty tight and the levels feel balanced.

The game is available to play through GameJolt.

Assault Android Cactus

A manic PC, fast-paced action shooter from developer Witch Beam. The game is a co-operative (with slightly competitive elements) game in which as a selection of girls in mech suits you destroy a room with a variety of weapons.

The game has a lot of polish, and is done with an eye towards planning and design. The game has good pacing — fast and easy with relative ease between switching between characters. It’s great fun, but it has some issue for visual feedback — it’s difficult to track characters across the scene (doubly so if you’re colorblind)

The game is currently in Early Access on Steam.

Her Story

Her Story, by Sam Barlow, is a game about a British woman being investigated by the police for a murder. You interact with the game through clips of videos on an old school desktop.

The game is available through Steam.

Interested? Be sure to bring out your favorite indie games next week, Monday at 6:30PM at Awesome Inc. We’ll be in the back with the couches?
