Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!

This Indie Game Night, we discussed Retro Racing and Hidden in Plain Sight.

Retro Racing

Retro Racing is an Ouya title with a back to the basics approach to racing games. With basic power ups and limited color selection, the game is a top-down racing game.

There are some UI issues, such as one cursor for multiple player select screen and a few other control bugs were discussed, but the game is considered to be an overall solid racer.

Hidden In Plain Sight

Hidden in Plain Sight is another Ouya game, similar to “Spy Party.” In one of the modes, which you can play as a demo for free on the Ouya app store, you play as a ninja in a room full of other ninjas. Your objectives are simple. You must either touch all five of the statues or kill all the other ninjas in the room. All characters look exactly the same, so you have to figure out who is a ninja based off of their movements and how they would differ from the room full of CPU characters.

Hidden in Plain Sight is similar to the Assassins’ Creed multiplayer, at least in Ninja Party mode.

Another mode for Hidden in Plain Sight is Death Race. All the players play as almost characters in some strange costume party where you must race across the room. Each player controls a character and a sniper sight. All characters slowly make their way across the screen, but only “real” characters can run, instantly setting them apart in the crowd.

The game is a successful showing of the Ouya’s potential as a party game console.
