• Indie Game Night 7-8

Monday nights, 6PM, at Awesome Inc., we meet up to expose ourselves to indie games. C’mon out and look at how small game designers are pushing the medium, or bring something we can play!

This Indie Game Night, we discussed Cypher, So Many Jagged Shards, Aces Wild, Manos: the Hands of Fate, and No Brakes Valet

    Cypher
    Cypher_01

Cypher is a commercial text adventure with cyber punk roots and a throw back to Blade Runner. You play as a data smuggler as he traipses through the city of Neo-Sushi in this corporate run cyber dystopia.

The game is available for download on the official site, as well as with feelies.

    So Many Jagged Shards

So Many Jagged Shards is an abstract roguelike originally constructed during a seven day roguelike challange. The game features an incredibly abstract triangle background and slow moving graphics.

We didn’t get to experience much of the gameplay as this was an initial play through.

    Aces Wild

This 2D action game features stylish movement, unique characters, classic gameplay, and smooth frame by frame animation. The game is made on XNA and is currently in a closed Beta.

It has several different difficulty modes, so it doesn’t just cater to die hard fighting game fans. Some of the levels feature unique aspects, such as a bottomless level.

    Manos: Hands of Fate

    Manos Hand of Fate

In the 1960’s a terrible movie was made, and it was lampooned thoroughly by Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the 1990’s. Since then, the game has been adapted into an 8-Bit Android mobile and tablet game. The game features basic platform mechanics and occasionally wonky controls.

The game does require slight knowledge of the original source material. The controls are likened to Mario, and is extremely hard.

    No Brakes Valet

no brakes valetThis game is a 1-2 player car parking game. The first rule of No Brakes Valet is that you have brakes. Still, even with that level of “control” the game still makes controlling your vehicle very difficult.

The better you park your car, the better tip you get. In two player, you can also sabotage your opponents by knocking them out of parking spaces with your own car.

The game is available in the Ouya marketplace.
