Ludum Dare 35 is upon us and we are hosting another real world jam location for this game jam event.
What is a game jam?
A game jam is a game creation event. There are game jams on trains, in castles, and on boats, but the most common form of game jam is one where you work from home or with a small group of people to make a prototype game in a short period of time. While amounts of time vary, a great deal of game jams are 48 hours and take place over the weekend. One such game jam is the Ludum Dare.
What is Ludum Dare
Ludum Dare is a long running game jam that takes place three times a year — Spring, Fall, and Winter. There are two levels to the Ludum are — Jam and Compo. In jam, you’re permitted to use open source elements as well as work on teams. You’re also allowed to go a bit over the 48 hour window. Compo entries have to be created entirely by a single creator during the 48 hour period. Both types of games are then judged in a really large, multinational community event over the following month where you can get feedback from other jammers.
We are happy to invite people of all skill levels and interest to come and make games, whether you’re super familiar with the process or just want to learn. Due to their brief nature, game jams are the perfect opportunity to experiment with new concepts and engines, and great times to learn.
While you can participate from home, the Ludum Dare can also be done in groups! We usually have a group of people who come together and work on games or work alone but around other people.
