Sometimes a new indie game comes out, and it’s go a little something extra to say. When this happens, and you want to talk a bit more in depth about independent games, we now have Indie Game of the Month Club.
Think of this like a Book Club. Once a month, we’ll select a new game to talk about and we’ll spend some time discussing the game in greater depth. We’ll take a closer, developer’s eye to really discuss the game beyond just the surface level of “it was cool.” Do you have a game that you think fits that idea? Do you have a game that you’ve made that you’d like us to talk about? Feel free to contact me at amanda@supersoul.co and we can talk it out.
For our first month we’re going to discussĀ the Beginner’s GuideĀ from Davey Wreden.
As per Davey’s own description:
The Beginner’s Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.
The game has been out since October, and there’s been a lot written about what it does or doesn’t do. There’s plenty to talk about, even if the game only clocks in at an hour and a half.
With this format, it’s important to have people actually play the game before coming in so that we can have longer in depth discussions about these titles. These talks are discussions — we’re not going to play the game at Indie Game of the Month club.
The game is currently available on Steam for $9.99 and since it has been around for a little bit, there are Let’s Plays of the game for people who still want to participate in discussion.
